WELCOME TO  MEGAN'S MANOR

OCTOBER NIGHTS

Some ghosts want you to leave. Megan just wants you to remember her

Ghostly Figures Corridor

THE STORY

There are places that feel old.

And then there are places that remember.

Hidden along the shores of Clifford Lake in Stanton, Michigan, stands a building that has been welcoming guests since 1881. The Clifford Lake Inn has survived storms, changing owners, the Great Depression, years of neglect—and one terrible night when fire consumed nearly the entire building.

But according to local legend…

the fire didn't take everyone with it.

And sometimes, if the Inn is quiet enough, you can still hear someone who never left.

Her name is Megan.

THE GIRL WHO LIVED AT THE INN

Long before the Inn became the place people know today, the building was filled with cooks, waitresses, laborers, guests and housekeepers.

Among them, according to local lore, was a woman who worked keeping the Inn's linens clean and the rooms prepared for guests.

And she had a daughter.

Her name was Megan.

Megan wasn't a guest.

She wasn't an employee.

She simply belonged there.

The Inn was her world.

She knew every staircase.

Every hallway.

Every creaking floorboard.

She knew which doors stuck in the summer and which windows rattled when the wind came across Clifford Lake.

Some say Megan would spend her days following her mother through the Inn.

Others say she would sit quietly in the hallways, listening to the grown-ups talk.

But there was one place Megan supposedly loved most.

A little room tucked away inside the old Inn.

Her room.

The place where she kept her things.

The place she called home.

And according to the legend…

Megan's Manor.

THE NIGHT OF THE FIRE

In 1930, tragedy struck.

A fire tore through the Clifford Lake Inn.

The historic Inn's own records tell us that approximately 80 percent of the building was destroyed. The owners eventually rebuilt, refusing to let the old Inn disappear.

But the stories passed down through the years tell a darker version.

They say that on the night of the fire, confusion swept through the building.

Smoke filled the hallways.

People shouted.

Doors slammed.

Flames climbed through the old structure.

And somewhere inside that chaos was a little girl who knew the building better than almost anyone.

Megan.

One version of the legend says that Megan was unable to escape.

Another says that her spirit became tied to the Inn after the fire.

And some stories say that another spirit—an employee named Ed, or Edward—may also have been connected to the tragedy.

No one knows exactly what happened.

That's the frightening part.

Because some stories aren't written down.

They're whispered.

Decades passed.

The Inn was rebuilt.

Generations of guests came and went.

The old rooms changed.

The walls were painted.

The furniture moved.

The building grew older.

But according to paranormal investigators who later explored the property, something remained.

During paranormal investigations at the Clifford Lake Inn, investigators reported capturing unexplained electronic voice phenomena—EVPs—including a child's voice that appeared to identify itself as:

“Megan.”

And that's where the legend becomes truly unsettling.

Because if the voice really belonged to Megan…

what was she still doing at the Inn?

Was she looking for her mother?

Was she afraid?

Was she simply trying to tell someone her name?

Or had she been waiting all those years for someone to finally hear her?

The Inn has even hosted paranormal events featuring EVP sessions and stories of unexplained sounds, cold spots, flickering lights and other reported phenomena.

THE HALLWAY

There is an old story told among people who have spent late nights inside the Inn.

It says that sometimes, long after the last guest has gone home and the building has become quiet, you can hear footsteps.

Not adult footsteps.

Little footsteps.

Soft.

Slow.

Barely loud enough to notice.

They begin at one end of the hallway.

Tap.

Tap.

Tap.

Then stop.

If you wait…

you may hear them again.

A little closer.

Tap.

Tap.

Tap.

Some people say the footsteps are followed by the faint sound of a child laughing.

Others say they've heard something different.

A little girl's voice.

Almost a whisper.

“Mom?”

That's why, when October comes to Clifford Lake Inn, the old building feels different.

The leaves disappear from the trees.

The lake becomes black beneath the moon.

The windows reflect nothing but darkness.

And inside the Inn, every creak suddenly sounds like a footstep.

Every shadow seems to move.

Every empty hallway seems to be waiting.

Because perhaps Megan never realized the fire was over.

Perhaps she still believes she's inside the old Inn.

Perhaps she's still looking for her mother.

Perhaps she's still wandering the halls she knew as a child.

Or perhaps…

she simply doesn't want to leave the only home she ever knew.

SO IF YOU VISIT MEGAN'S MANOR…

If you're brave enough to walk through Clifford Lake Inn on an October night, remember something:

Don't be surprised if you hear a floorboard creak behind you.

Don't be surprised if a door that was closed suddenly isn't.

And if you hear the sound of little footsteps following you down the hallway…

don't run.

Stop.

Listen.

And if a little girl's voice whispers from somewhere in the darkness…

“Megan.”

Maybe…

just maybe…

she's finally letting you know that she's still here.

Some ghosts want you to leave.

Megan just wants you to remember her
